The Ultimate Cable Pulling Safety Checklist (QHSE)
Authored by: Safety Director Tariq Al-Jaber | Reading Time: 6 min read
Safety is the primary metric of success on any industrial project. Moving cable drums weighing up to 15 tons and operating high-tension winches presents significant hazards. Our QHSE checklist is implemented on every site:
- RAMS Approval: Verify that the Method Statement and Risk Assessment are reviewed and signed by the client engineer.
- Lifting Gear Check: Inspect all spindles, hydraulic jacks, shackles, and wire ropes for test certificates and visible damage.
- Communication: Establish radio links between the winch operator, the drum feeder, and corner watchmen.
- Tension Limiters: Ensure the winch automatic shut-off limit is calibrated to the cable’s maximum pulling tension.
- Confined Spaces: Test air quality with gas detectors in deep manholes and ensure active ventilation is running.
